On The Rise Artisan Bread and Pastries

“Is that from On The Rise?”  Well, good morning to you too, Dr. Jill Barnholtz-Sloan!  Never had I met someone who could name a bread’s origin in less than ten seconds after seeing it.  The bread in question was part of a sandwich I was enjoying for my “second breakfast.”

Steve and I recently tried On The Rise Artisan Bread & Pastries, a local bakery in the same small commercial district as Gigi’s on Fairmount.  On The Rise had been on my radar for a while, but it seemed like a very small place that specialized in bakery goods.  The weekend we tried it together happened to be soon after they renovated to increase the space.  I am not sure what they have offered in the past, but On The Rise currently offers a variety of sandwiches that are perfect for a grab-and-go weekend lunch (Figure 1).  Steve and I think it’s still too small of a space to sit and linger for lunch, but we saw many customers try.  The place is very, very busy, serving both walk-ins like us and call-ins (apparently, like Jill).

The sandwiches were excellent, and the bread does look tempting (Figure 2).  I suspect we’ll be back many, many times.  And, maybe we’ll run into Jill!
