Kellie Bruening

Ms. Bruening is an informatics project specialist, serving as the front door contact for the Clinical Informatics Secure Research Environment. Kellie consults and assists clinical investigators with their informatics project(s) requirements and specifications. She also provides documentation for data management and database development project activities, as well as project management and coordination for the Computational Biology team focusing on the development of procedures, guidelines and standards.

James M. Warfe

Mr. Warfe currently leads the CWRU Information Technology Services Research Computing team that develops and implements IT strategy for the research enterprise utilizing best practices in industry and academia. Trained in information systems and health care informatics he is the co-Director of the CWRU ICB clinical informatics team and a staff member in the Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Shared Resource for the Case CCC. Mr. Warfe currently provides support to the CWRU BTERNet (PI: Chak) and CWRU GI SPORE (PI: Markowitz) projects. He has extensive experience in high performance computing, complex disease data modeling, data management, and study design.

Patrick Mergler

Mr. Mergler leads a team supporting translational informatics efforts in oncology. He is the Director of Cancer Informatics for the University Hospital Case Medical Center’s Seidman Cancer Center (affiliated with the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center) where he holds a leadership position for the implementation of clinical informatics solutions. Additionally, he is co-Director of the CWRU ICB clinical informatics team supporting research informatics efforts. He completed his MBA and undergraduate studies in Management Information Systems with professional certifications in project management (PMP) and healthcare IT (CPHIMS). He has extensive experience in custom application development, enterprise data warehousing, complex data integrations, complex disease data modeling, and data management.

Bob Lanese

Mr. Lanese is a Data Architect/Data Lead Manager for the ICB Translational Informatics Team and also has the Clinical Research Informatics Specialist role at the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center supporting Clinical Trials activities in the areas of database and report development, applications administration, and electronic form design. He has extensive experience in custom application development, integration design, application administration, database and electronic form design, data management, and standards development. Bob has over 31 years of experience as both an analyst/programmer and as an engineer. He has a M.S.E. in both mathematics and mechanical engineering, and a B.S.E. in mechanical engineering. Bob started his career in the U.S. Peace Corps in Cameroon, West Africa.

Devin Tian

Devin Tian, Ph.D. is a Data Architect for the ICB Translational Informatics team. Dr. Tian received his Ph.D. at Case Western Reserve University in Computer Science in 2006. Before joining the team, he worked at the Cleveland Clinic as a Sr. Software Architect for 9 years. His areas of expertise include various programming languages, MVC, OOP, component-based development, application & database Integration, SQL Server/Oracle data management, and Epic Chronicles/Cache development. He is adept in all phases of the project lifecycle, with an emphasis on software/project design, application development, data transformation, project management and system integration. He is also interested in data science and cloud Computing, including large scale data integration and the Semantic web, biomedical and clinical Informatics, including pragmatics of ontology, data capture, integration, management, Interface-driven software engineering and theoretical computer science.

John Turnbull

John Turnbull, Ph.D. is a Data Architect for the ICB Translational Informatics team. Dr. Turnbull holds a Ph.D. in electrical engineering and computer science, with a strong focus on pattern recognition and artificial neural methods, and a Master’s in applied mathematics, with a focus on numerical methods. He holds a B.S. in computer and information science. John has over 31 years of experience as a software and systems engineer, 29 of which are in healthcare IT.

Erin Fogarty

Ms. Fogarty is an Information Assurance Analyst in the CWRU Information Technology Services Information Security Office (ISO) and serves as the information security lead for the CWRU ICB information technology team. Ms. Fogarty has extensive experience in research administration as a Certified Research Administrator as well as an information security specialist. She comes to CWRU after 7 years at Georgetown University's Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center and more recently the Information Security Office. Ms. Fogarty's security focus is on security assessments, policy, information security in a research environment and compliance (human subject research, HIPAA, FISMA, GLBA, etc). She also has experience in grant accounting as well as grant proposals, submissions and progress reports

Sunah Song

Sunah Song is the Data Manager of the CWRU ICB clinical informatics team supporting research informatics. She completed her Master in Computer Engineering and Information System and is currently Ph.D. Candidate in Bioinformatics at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, CWRU. She has extensive experience in research application design and development, data analysis and visualization, complex disease data modeling and data management.

Dan Baechle

Mr. Baechle is a Data Manager for the ICB clinical informatics team supporting research informatics. He has extensive experience developing software for biomedical research. He holds master’s degrees in Biology and Computer and Information Science.
