Past Crew Member: Sabrina L. Mitchell

Previous Position

Crawford Post-Doctoral Fellow, co-mentored with Dr. Deborah Murdock (2010-2015)

Vanderbilt University Medical Center post-doctoral fellow (2015-2016)

Staff Scientist, Division of Genetic Medicine, Vanderbilt University Medical Center (2017)

Current Position

Staff Scientist, Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, Vanderbilt University Medical Center (2018-present)

 Research Interests

Sabrina’s research interests include understanding the impact of mitochondrial genetic variation on complex traits and disease, developing methods for high-throughput classification of mitochondrial haplogroups, understanding the mechanisms mitochondria employ to communicate with the nucleus to regulate gene expression, and bridging statistical and molecular genetics to determine functional variants that influence disease risk.
