The Black Box Fix

Who:  Dana C. Crawford, PhD

What:  The Black Box Fix

Where:  2307 Lee Road, Cleveland Heights, OH 44118

As previously mentioned, many a Clevelander mourned when Sweetie Fry closed its doors in the fall of 2014. We had just moved to Cleveland, so we never had the chance to indulge in the local selection of ice cream and French fries. Will anyone be able to step in and offer tasty fries and fare to the neighborhood?

There’s no need to fear! Black Box Fix is here! Located on Lee Road in the old Sweetie Fry space, Black Box Fix opened in March 2015 to much anticipation. On the menu are gourmet sandwiches paired with fries ready for take-out or eat-in (warning: the place is small, so expect a wait during popular hours for eating in the restaurant).

We are always on the lookout for new take-out places near our house. Sure, we are American, ergo we consume pizza (Mom’s is sans cheese). But, even Americans need variety. Enter the burger and its gourmet cousins. Steve, Mom, and I eagerly ordered out with favorable results. I had a very tasty Railroader (Figure). And, Mom was even able to order a lactose-free sandwich and fries (they graciously swapped the garlic parmesan fries with plain fries). Overall, we had a good take-out experience, although I would like to see a nearby place with more health-conscious fare. In the meantime, we’ll add this to our heavy rotation of take-out on those days we don’t feel like cooking.

Update:  The Black Box Fix moved to Legacy Village in Lyndhurst in December 2017.  In its place is The Sweet Fix Bakery.
